Laguna Community Concert Band

Keeping it Live with the Laguna Community Concert Band! When music educator Carol Reynolds, music professor Dr. Bill Nichols and flutist Theresa Marino met over coffee at Zinc in 1999, they had big dreams—to bring live music to Laguna Beach completely free of charge. That big dream started out small. Only eight players joined the Laguna Community Concert Band the first year. Today, the band boasts over 60 musicians who perform a variety of instrumental and vocal selections at venues all over Laguna Beach, including the Laguna Beach High School Artists Theatre, the Laguna Playhouse, the Festival of Arts, The Fête de la Musique, Patriot’s Day Parade and the ever-popular Memorial Day Concert at Main Beach. Former conductors Dr. Bill Nichols and Ed Petersen passed the baton to conductor Mark Lowery who co-leads the band with conductor Peter Fournier, who has been with the group since 2008. The rapid growth and success of the band is a testimony to the creative arts environment funded by the Festival of Arts Foundation, the City of Laguna Beach Cultural Arts and Community Assistance Grant Program and enthusiastic citizens. To nurture future musicians, the organization offers scholarships to Laguna Beach High School seniors planning to study music in college. The group also features an excellent swing band ensemble, Laguna JaZz band, under the direction of Lynn Olinger. This ensemble plays its eclectic blend of jazz, pop and rock music all over greater Orange County. The band attracts committed musicians and is always looking for new players.
